Occupational Therapy Feeding Evaluation
A Pediatric occupational therapy feeding evaluation is a structured assessment. It covers oral motor function (chewing, sucking, swallowing), sensory responses to food (taste, texture, smell, temperature), self-feeding skills (using hands and utensils), posture and positioning, caregiver–child interaction during meals, and environmental factors. The evaluation typically includes caregiver interview, review of medical history, observation of mealtime or food trials, standardized or informal assessment tools, and development of individualized recommendations and goals to improve safe, efficient, and enjoyable eating. Written reports are provided within 5-7 business days after evaluation.
